The weather does not always cooperate for us. It's actually a really interesting part of being an outdoor portrait photographer! There are so many conditions that we have to keep in mind while taking your portraits. It's a good thing we are so experienced!

Before the "G" family started their portrait session I was a little worried that the flies were going to be bad. There are about 5 nights a year where the wind is in a direction to bring the flies to the beach. These flies are very annoying and love to bite, making those evenings pretty uncomfortable!
Usually I would try to reschedule sessions to another night when everyone would be more comfortable. But the “G” family was only available that day and I wanted to make sure we could help them get their portraits.
So we decided to go for it and our session actually started out great! The "G" family is so nice. You can tell that they are a family who loves spending time together. And they all just adore their two littles.
But soon the flies were biting and we all did not want the kids to get bitten. So I decided we should move the session over to the Whalehead Club.
The Whalehead Club, also known as Historic Currituck Park, is right across the street from where we usually photograph. It's a really convenient spot for us to move to, if conditions on the beach are unbearable. Usually if it's too windy on the beach, it's more manageable on the Sound. Likewise, if the flies are biting on the beach, they aren't as bad on the Sound.
The session was a success! And it really was a beautiful night. I loved watching this family enjoying each other. I'm so happy that they had their vacation together and I know that the Outer Banks will continue to be a tradition for their family.
